June 20, 2023 (6:00 PM - 8:30 PM) (PDT)

Description

Join us at the Anvil Centre this June as the New West Chamber reignites conversations around the future of the New Westminster Waterfront Vision. Presented by Piva Modern Italian and hosted by renowned journalist Ria Renouf, this event aims to bring together key stakeholders to discuss the vision of one of our community's most valuable assets: our waterfront. Our panel of experts will share their insights on creating a vibrant and sustainable waterfront in New Westminster.

This high-profile panel discussion is open to anyone interested in the future of our community. Whether you are a resident, a business owner, or simply an individual who cares about the future of our waterfront, this is the event for you. Don't miss this opportunity to engage in a meaningful community.

MODERATOR

Ria Renouf | Editor-in-Chief, New West Anchor

Ria Renouf is a seven-time nominated news anchor and reporter, winning two Edward R. Murrow awards and a Radio Television Digital National Award for her broadcasting and writing at CityNews in Vancouver. She launched New West Anchor in 2022, a twice-weekly newsletter blending news coverage with work highlighting the New West community. While she loves covering city council, her heart lies in community profiles, which is why The Anchor’s Community Spotlight is her favourite section of the newsletter. When she’s off-duty, you can find this Downtown resident exploring the city with her husband Jon.

PANELISTS

Darrell Mussatto | Former Mayor, City of North Vancouver

Prior to entering civic politics in the City of North Vancouver, Darrell Mussatto worked as a paramedic with the BC Ambulance Service. He was elected to council in the City of North Vancouver in 1993, serving four terms before he was elected mayor—a role he retired from in 2018. Mussatto and his team have been commended for the development and vision of Lower Lonsdale’s waterfront. Today, Mussatto sits on the board for the Port of Vancouver. He also loves golf, cycling, woodworking, and exploring other great cities.

Ruby Campbell | Councillor, City of New Westminster

Serving in her first term as a city councillor, Ruby Campbell is the current chair of New Westminster's economic development advisory committee, and is also the council representative sitting on New West's tourism board. Campbell was previously the director of advancement and alumni engagement at Simon Fraser University in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She has spent the majority of her career working to improve public amenities, creating community spaces, and building strong community partnerships to ensure residents are engaged and welcomed. She has significant experience in intergovernmental relations, community organizing and raising funds for public and not-for-profit sector initiatives, including infrastructure development, healthcare, arts and culture, and many social inclusion programs. She lives in Sapperton with her husband, her daughter, and their family pup Coco.
